Community Schools in Fortuna
Each Fortuna school is a community school committed to meeting the needs of the "whole child" using "an integrated focus on academics, health and social services, youth and community development, and community engagement."

Some critical priorities of our community schools include:
  • Strong Relationships
  • Physical, Emotional, and Identity Safety
  • Sense of Belonging/Purpose
  • Academic Intervention
  • Behavioral Support
  • Social-Emotional Support and Skill Instruction
  • Afterschool programs
  • Expanded Learning Opportunities for students and families
  • Health and Wellness Support
  • Community Partnerships
  • Collaborative Leadership
  • Support with Attendance

To guide and support our community schools, each school's site council advises the principal on community school priorities. The district also has a Community School Advisory Council that collaborates with the Community School Coordinator to develop priorities that improve student outcomes by addressing students' academic, cognitive, physical, mental, and social-emotional needs.

The district is looking for families of students, staff members, and community members to serve on its advisory council. If you have questions about community schools, would like to serve on the committee, or would like to attend our next meeting on October 29, please get in touch with Tim Grimmett, Community School Coordinator, using the contact information below. I appreciate your interest in helping improve outcomes for our students!
